Audition Process

Auditions

We are always looking for TALENTED, ENGAGING and FUN musicians to be a part of our Entertainment Team!

Candidates may attend INVITED CALL or OPEN CALL in-person live auditions when announced.

All musicians interested in an Invited Call audition need to complete the related application, and should submit at minimum a CV and demo reel. When selected, we will contact you (or your agent) with a specific date and time, for an Invited Call audition appointment. Alternatively, we will forward a date with an open time period, for an Open Call audition.


WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

PCL Music Direction Team has two main categories of onboard music staff: House Band and Non-House Band.

House Band Musicians* – accepted instruments: Piano, Bass, Drums, Guitar, Reeds (Alto & Tenor Sax, Clarinet, and Flute), Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion/Vocalist.

All applicants for House Band Musician positions are individually auditioned.


Non-House Band Musicians & Groups*: Featured Soloist (Guitar / Vocals, and Pan), Solo Piano Intermissionist, Classical Ensemble (2-4 members), Sequenced Dance Duo (using backing tracks), Lounge/Ballroom Trio or Quartet, and Pop/Rock Party Band (5-6 members).

All applicants for Band/Group positions are auditions together as a cohesive ensemble.

*Each position requires a specific skill set. At the time of applying for an audition time we will forward specifications for the position to specific applicants as required.


GENERAL SKILLS

  • The ability to create engaging musical experiences by extending beyond a performer into an entertainer.
  • Minimum age of 21 years old.
  • Advanced individual and ensemble musicianship
  • Professional, positive, and a flexible attitude with the ability to work and live in a structured environment.
  • English fluency as well as an understanding of North American culture and humor

LIVE AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS - HOUSE BAND:

All House Band applicants should prepare 2 pieces of music that demonstrate their level of proficiency on the instrument.

Rhythm Section: Piano, Bass, Drums, and Guitar
  • Be prepared to play various styles that are relevant to the job including:
  • Various Ballroom styles, Country, Jazz, Rock, Modern Pop, and Latin.
Horns: Reeds (Tenor & Alto Sax, Flute, and Clarinet), Trumpet, and Trombone

Be prepared to play and improvise over the chord progressions of jazz standards and other relevant styles such as Ballroom, Country, Rock, Modern Pop, and Latin.

All instruments need to be prepared to demonstrate the ability to sight-transpose a concert-pitch lead sheet. All House Band applicants must be able to sight read at a high level, as most onboard shows are have one rehearsal followed by two shows on the same day.

At the time of the audition we will provide music and backing tracks demonstrate you level of sight reading.

ONLINE SUBMISSIONS

ONLINE APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1.SUBMIT your application to the corresponding application for the position you are most interested in and qualified for.

2.For all positions, please include your CV and other demonstrations of performance experience.

3.For House Band applications, please include at least one video (or video link) demonstrating a performance in a live reading situation, as well as at least one that shows your improvisation ability. Multiple videos are a bonus that highlight different genres, venues, and situations in which you have performed.

4.Non-House Band positions need to submit a live performance demonstrating the ability to entertain and engage an audience. We will also be listening for the overall flow of your set as you go from one song to the next. Keep in mind that sound quality of the recording is secondary to the entertain value displayed in the video.
