Set sail on a new career with Carnival, and help us bring the FUN to life aboard one of our fantastic vessels! We’re looking for dedicated individuals to join us onboard as Engine Cadet!  

 

The Engine is the heart of our ship and our technical teams ensure the safe and smooth operation of the propulsion systems, engines, waste disposal systems, electrical and fire systems, air conditioning, and mechanical equipment while ensuring Environmental compliance so our guests can enjoy the FUN facilities we have on board.  

 

As an Engine Cadet at Carnival, you will be learning the ropes in the department finding out what it takes to keep the ship running. You will be working with the Engine Officers and the rest of the Engine Team to really understand how the department works. You will assist with paperwork and other clerical duties and will be learning the policies and procedures in the department. As an Engine Cadet you will be expected to be an example to others when it comes to following the rules and be an ambassador for the engine department. 

 

Joining Carnival as an Engine Cadet is the first step on your journey to becoming an Engine Officer onboard one of our ships.    

  • Observes the Engine Officers performing watch keeping duties 
  • Ensure all aspects of the company's global (HESS-MS) Health, Environment, Safety and Security Management System are effectively applied during his/her working activities and same is effectively followed 
  • Learning how to use the main automation engine control room system, all operations during arrival/departure operation, the general use of water generations. Familiarizes with equipment including steam/condensate and boiler water analyses, cooling motors, and general cooling system. 
  • Learning about production and evaporators principles – operation and distribution of hot/cold water, air start/hull/automation and related types of compressors transfer sewage and treatment fuel. 
  • Learning the location, the operation, and use of different types of fire protection system 
  • Learning the machinery to set in motion, including opening and closing the appropriate valves, as well as the ability to control the operating parameter and evaluate the possible impediments to start the machinery safely 
  • Learning how to correctly read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams showing a thorough knowledge and understanding of symbolism, monographs, and ship’s drawing 
  • Support the Staff Chief Engineer and the Chief Engineer in their office functions 
  • Supporting vessel operations, such as assisting the engineering team with particularly busy periods when leaving or entering port 
  • Assists with clerical and administration related work for the Engine Department 
  • Participate in drills and training as required by the company 
  • Filing up the engine scrapbook and all other watches mandatory documentation 
  • Complete additional assignments depending on shipboard operations
